Tips for Filing Water Damage Claim with Insurance
When filing an insurance claim in Florida, be sure to follow these steps to ensure a smoother claims process:
1). Determine if the loss exceeds your policy deductible. In the case of water damage in the home, this is often the case, as water intrusion affects walls, floors, ceilings, tiles, and can facilitate mold damage as well. The best way to know the full extent of the damage is to arrange for an inspection via our Contact page.
2). If the damage exceeds your deductible, report the loss to your insurance company as soon as possible. Failure to act can in itself become a reason to not pay a claim, since damage only gets worse when it's left untreated.
3). Temporary emergency repairs may be needed. Boarding up the home and stopping all sources of water intrusion will be required for houses damaged by storms, winds, fires, or hurricanes.
4). Take pictures of the damaged property before emergency repairs begin. This will facilitate the claim process with your insurance company.
5). Keep a phone log of everyone you speak to regarding your claim, including the names of all adjusters involved.
